What the receipt shows
Where an invoice says Bill To, a receipt says Received From, and the total reads Amount Received, so nobody mistakes it for a bill. Receipts have their own number series, starting at RCPT-001, so they never use up an invoice number.

Turn a paid invoice into a receipt
If you invoiced the customer first, there is nothing to retype. When you mark the invoice paid, choose Create receipt, and the receipt opens with the customer, items and total already filled in. The invoice stays as it was, so you keep both records.
Or create one on its own
For cash sales, advance payments and anything that didn't start with an invoice, create a receipt directly. Most receipts are a single line, so the form starts with just one. Download it as a PDF, print it, or send a link the payer opens in the browser.
